Growing Vegetables in Shade
This page talks about growing vegetables in shade.
When trying to grow vegetables in shade one must decide if they are growing the vegetable for the leaf or the fruit.
If the gardener is growing them for the leaf then some vegetables will do good in the shade.
However, if growing them for the vegetable or fruit then they will need at least six to eight hours of full sunlight each day.
Now to experiment with this I decided to start some plants indoors in an area that I thought got a lot of sunlight. It did not get as much as I had hoped. The plants have not done very well. I have had to add some artificial light and hopefully they will start doing OK.
The best way to grow any vegetable is according to the instructions given by the seller of the seeds.
In the pictures below are my plants that are about four weeks old. As you can see they are not doing very well, even though we have tried to take them outside and give them several hours of sunlight each day.
The last picture shows some lights I set up on the tubs to help them grow. I like the large tub for this purpose and really had not considered this when purchasing it.
I believe we will see some improvements in the next few days.
