Growing Vegetables in Raised Beds
Growing vegetables in raised beds is a good way to plant vegetables to make it easier to plant, grow and harvest them.
The vegetable garden designs below are those of my next door neighbor.
You will notice that he did not put his raised bed next to the fence. I told him that I had done this and it was a mistake. At least he listened to me.
Now if my children would only listen to me...
This type of planting helps to keep your paths clean and helps to keep grass or other things from growing in your garden. Weeding is also easier.
His gravel adds an eye appeal. However, there was a lot of heat being reflected off of the rocks. Also it will make getting down to pull weeds and harvest harder on the knees unless they have a knee pad of some sort.
His set up will allow water to soak into the ground but not let weeds grow through.
In this video I show what my neighbor did. He put down a landscape fiber in order to put gravel on it. His bed is 4' wide by 12' long.
I have also included a couple of pictures of my neighbor's vegetable garden designs.
Below is a three tiered raised bed I drew up. I hope to be able to build it soon.
