Fungicide Home Page

This page is Vegetable Gardening Made Easier's Fungicide Home Page. Fungicides are chemical compounds or biological organisms used to kill or inhibit fungi or fungal spores.

Fungi can cause serious damage in agriculture, resulting in critical losses of yield, quality and profit.

Fungicides are used both in agriculture and to fight fungal infections in animals. Chemicals used to control oomycetes, which are not fungi, are also referred to as fungicides as oomycetes use the same mechanisms as fungi to infect plants.

Fungicides can either be contact, trans-laminar or systemic.

Contact fungicides are not taken up into the plant tissue & only protect the plant where the spray is deposited.

Trans-laminar fungicides redistribute the fungicide from the upper, sprayed leaf surface to the lower, un-sprayed surface.

Systemic fungicides are taken up & redistributed through the xylem vessels to the upper parts of the plant. New leaf growth is protected for a short period. .

Most fungicides that can be bought retail are sold in a liquid form. The most common active ingredient is sulfur, present at 0.08% in weaker concentrates, and as high as 0.5% for more potent fungicides.

Fungicides in powdered form are usually around 90% sulfur and are very toxic. Other active ingredients in fungicides include neem oil, rosemary oil, jojoba oil and the bacterium Bacillus subtilis. We start our Fungicide Home Page off with a page on Organic Fungicides where we talk about what constitutes organic fungi.

Next we have our line up of fungicides. We start with Actinovate which is used as a spray for foliar diseases or as a drench for root diseases.

Next we have Champ WG Copper Fungicide which is a 77% copper hydroxide based broad-spectrum fungicide for the control of leaf spot, early and late blight, anthracnose, alternaria, leaf curl, downy and powdery mildew, black rot, gray leaf mold, bacterial blight and more.

Then there is GreenCure which is potassium bicarbonate fungicide that kills mildew on contact. Proven to cure and prevent powdery mildew, downy mildew, late blight, and others.

There is the favorite which is Liquid Copper Fungicide which prevents fungal problems with this 4% copper solution. Effective on early and late blight, leaf spots, downy and powdery mildew, anthracnose, and black rot.

Another one that is available is Mildew Cure Fungicide which is used to treat diseases in the vegetable garden. Mildew Cure is OMRI and WSDA listed. It is an effective organic treatment for powdery mildew.

Our next one is MilStop which is a new potassium bicarbonate fungicide that kills mildew on contact. OxiDate Fungicide is OMRI and WSDA listed. It has Hydrogen Dioxide for field crop use. Oxidate® is a treatment for the prevention and control of plant pathogens in field-grown crops and commercial greenhouses.

We continue our Fungicide Home Page with PlantShield is OMRI and WSDA listed for root disease preventative. It can be applied to seeds, transplants or other prerogative material.

Finally there is RootShield which is an all natural damping-off and root-rot control for all your vegetables and flowers. University-developed and tested for over 15 years, this beneficial fungus forms a natural bond, "shielding" your plants' roots.

To help clean your equipment and fruit/vegetables there is SaniDate. There are three different types of SaniDate for cleaning and sanitizing.

You can purchase any of these items as well as other garden seeds and products at our Amazon Store.
