Javelinas
In Leakey, Texas one might run into this Javelinas. These are a sort of pig, only they are wild and do not get as large. I have heard some say they are good over the BBQ but I have never had the chance.
I took the video along with some humming birds that were feeding. I thought they looked neat eating together. The humming flying in and out and the pigs eating in the back ground.
This is just for fun. Hopefully if you live in the city, there will not be any Javelinas messing with your garden or anything else.
I have heard my relatives tell stories how they have been treed by them and they could not come down for hours. They would go out hunting deer and then get chased by them. Sometimes after being missing for hours someone would come out looking for them.
They are a type of wild pig and are members of the peccary family, originating from South America. They are common in much of central and southern Arizona, but can be found in Texas as well.
They form herds of two to more than 20 animals. They rely on each other to defend territory, protect against predators, and interact socially.
They use washes and areas with dense vegetation as travel corridors. They are most active at night, but may be active during the day when it's cold.
They other night my wife was returning home from the store and ran into a group of them as they were crossing the road. We have an uncleared park with a creek in it by us and I guess they were going there.
We also have several twelve point bucks roaming the woods around out home. They are the kind I hoped I would see while hunting in Leakey but never did.
